print it / Magic Ball

This is another variation of the Sphere Gear Mechanism by me. It is what you get when you make a Gear Ball with even more gears.

You need

Print 2.0
14 connectors
14 Gears in total, consisting of:
1 "Gear 1"
3 "Gear 2"
3 "Gear 3"
3 "Gear 4"
3 "Gear 5"
1 "Gear 6"
1 "Heart"

There is also an "All" file. This file has everything you need on one plate.

Assembly

There is also a PDF Assembly guide included in the download.
I sadly could not number all the gears. There just is no room left.

Tips

This model looks especially good when you print the "All" file with rainbow filament. That will give the whole ball a rainbow appearance when it’s closed.
I used Protopasta's Nebula Multicolor Filament.

Troubleshooting

If your gears are too tight or too loose, watch this video: Watch the video

If your connectors break, try experimenting with how many walls you print. I usually print 2 walls, but try different amounts to see if it gets better.
You can also try printing them with another spool or even another plastic. PETG works quite well.

Too tight/don’t turn easily:
You can try to either scale the heart a little or make the connectors a little longer. This ball is a little harder to turn than the Gear Ball due to more gears, but it shouldn’t be an exercise.

Technical Data

The magic ball takes around 100g of filament and 5.5 hours to print.

The filament I used in the pictures is:
